MirrorsÂ
Mirrors form part of the essential Mirrors Signal Manoeuvre (MSM) routine to keep you and other road users safe. The appropriate mirrors should be checked well before any changes of speed (middle mirror) and direction (external mirrors).
Remember to also check areas that the mirrors do not cover (blind spot areas) when moving off from a parked position or changing lanes on a dual carriageway or motorway.
Check for vehicles behind that are too close before braking so you can break lighter and earlier. Also watch out for motorcyclists and bicycles in queueing traffic.
Not checking mirrors and blind spots is a big reason for gaining serious faults on the driving test.
Test Tip: Before stopping to do a reversing manoeuvre on the test, make sure you check your rear view mirror as it’s common to forget this if you’re already thinking about the reversing technique as you’re positioning to start.
